Dedicated cycling facilities provide safe, traffic-free environments for any cyclist of any ability to participate, train, compete and – most importantly – have fun whilst riding a bike.

British Cycling worked closely with Sport England to develop a national network of new cycling facilities, making use of a £15 million investment programme called Places to Ride.

The main funds are now closed to applications. The funding was available to any organisation developing cycling activity in their community and was invested in a wide range of projects from equipment packages to activate local spaces, improvements to existing facilities, through to brand new cycling facilities.

Up to £15,000 for your community cycling project

The Places to Ride programme is funding the development of new or the improvement of existing cycling facilities and activities in communities across England.

The programme is being delivered through a partnership of British Cycling, Sport England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Teaming up with Crowdfunder UK, we want to invest in innovative and exciting projects that perhaps would not traditionally see British Cycling as a source of funding or indeed consider sport to be their main area of work.

We’re keen to hear from any sports club or community organisation with a great idea that will make a difference to the places where people ride. We believe that investment in community-based, accessible cycling facilities and equipment will drive increased participation, encouraging existing cyclists to cycle more regularly and encouraging new cyclists to take part.
